History of BRING HOPE
The BRING HOPE initiative began in 2006 with Calgary rock band, KIROS, as a means of raising awareness about world poverty, and took off in 2009 with the first ever BRING HOPE Walk for Hunger.
The first annual Walk for Hunger was held on June 6th, 2009, in Regina, Sk, and raised a total of $7000 for World Vision. The impact was tremendous! This $7000 provided food for 155 families for one full month!
We are ecstatic about the outcome of the 2009 Walk for Hunger, but we also see the potential for enormous growth! In 2010, the BRING HOPE Walk for Hunger has expanded to five cities across Canada and the United States. We expect to see exponential growth across North America over the next few years.
Who We Are [Our mission]
BRING HOPE is a not-for-profit, Christian movement that exists to accomplish exactly what its name implies-to bring hope to a suffering world. In this world plagued with poverty, injustice, addictions, and pain, BRING HOPE is dedicated to instilling a sense of safety, value, purpose, and hope into the life of every human being. We aspire to raise awareness about the issues that afflict our world, and invest directly into effective solutions, thereby ensuring a brighter future for the generations to come.
What We Are
We are hope for the hopeless; a light in the darkness. We are food for the hungry, and water for the parched. We are provision for the needy, and relief for the destitute. We are justice for the oppressed, and freedom for the captives. We are a friend for the lonely, and solace for the downhearted. We are followers of Jesus Christ, passionately seeking to express His love to the world.
What We Believe
We believe in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ; that we have been saved by His grace, and that He alone is the only true source of hope in our world; that we are ambassadors for His Kingdom, having been commissioned to spread His love to the nations.
We believe in the purpose and value of every single human being; that each and every one of us was intricately designed by a loving God, in His own image, and that He values us as His precious children.
We believe that the love of God knows no bounds-it breaks down all barriers, crosses all borders, supersedes the forces of nature, and prevails over the laws of man. His perfect love provides peace, protection, passion, and purpose for all who accept it.
We believe in the potential of each individual to overcome adversity and live a fruitful and fulfilling life in the pursuit of excellence.
We believe that we are stewards of that which has been given to us [everything], and seek to use our resources to meet needs in the world around us.
We believe that hope cannot exist in a life devoid of the most basic human needs, but must be preceded by the opportunity to eat, breathe, and live in safety. As such, we believe that it is our responsibility to "open our arms to the poor, and extend our hands to the needy" (Proverbs 31:20).
We believe that everyone has a voice. We believe that it is our job to use our voice to "speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute" (Proverbs 31:8).
